Dozens of the 400-plus folks who crowded into the model suites of The Heathview last month thought they were getting a sneak peek at two swanky new condominium highrises still under construction right in the heart of Forest Hill.

In fact, they were getting an exclusive look at something that hasn’t been seen in this upscale midtown neighbour in 40 years — two brand new, rental apartment towers.

Come July, the first tenants will begin moving into the 600-unit luxury apartment complex on Tweedsmuir Ave., just steps from Forest Hill Village and the St. Clair W. subway station.

The Heathview is the first new apartments built by real estate investment company Morguard Corp. in almost a decade. The 30-storey buildings replace two smaller, 1950s ones the company owned on the prime site.

But more than just that, they are two of the most towering examples yet of the quiet resurgence of rental in the GTA.
